''Plasmodium guyannense'' is a parasite of the genus ''Plasmodium'' subgenus ''Sauramoeba''. Like all ''Plasmodium'' species ''P. guyannense'' has both vertebrate and insect hosts. The vertebrate hosts for this parasite are reptiles. == Description == The parasite was first described by Telford in 1979.〔Telford SR Jr. (1979) A taxonomic reconsideration of some ''Plasmodium'' species from iguanid lizards. Ann. Parasitol. Hum. Comp. 54(2):129-144〕 This species had previously been considered to be ''Plasmodium cnemidophori''. Young trophozoites contain prominent vacuoles.
